Study highlights include:
* The negative effects of smoke on the cardiovascular system may occur at relatively low levels but they increase the risk of heart or stroke death.
* People smoking three or less cigarettes a day had about a 65% higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease.
* Those exposed to air pollution and secondhand smoke had a 20% to 30% higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease compared to those without exposure.
