- Hot Off the Presses! Youth Tobacco Use Rates Decline!
Nebraska's youth (grades 9-12) smoking rate is 18.4%, according to the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). That's down from 22.3% in 2007 and from an all-time high of 39.2% in 1997. High school youth who use smokeless tobacco (chew) is at 10.9%, down from 13.0% in 2007. (Note: YRBS data is not weighted due to a low response rate from schools.)
